Christian Bubalovic signs for Birkirkara FC
by Ivan Mizzi - 17th January 2016Birkirkara FC remains the most active club locally during this January Transfer Market, as it completed its fifth acquisition, when Austrian central defender Christian Bubalovic signed a one and a half year contract.
The towering 191cm central defender, who also has a Croatian citizenship, is twenty-four years old and he was last playing for the Austrian Club, Kapfenberger SV in the Austrian First League, which is the second tier of Austrian's football.
He joined this Club in the 2014-2015 season where he made thirty-two appearances and scored three goals. During this season, he remained one of the most regular players as he played all the ninety minutes in eighteen out of the team's nineteen matches as he only missed one game due to suspension after collecting four yellow cards.
Christian played with Admira FC of Austria in his youth career before moving to Germany to continue his youth career with Energie Cottbus FC. With the latter, he was given his first professional contract and spent two season where made forty-eighth appearances and scored two goals. Then in the 2012-2013 season, he moved to Slovenia and joined FK Rudar where he spent another two seasons and made fifty appearances and scored three goals.
The signing of Bubalovic will continue to strengthen the defence department as he will join central-back duo of Mauricio Mazzetti and Nikola Vukanac, two defenders who are highly regraded among the best on the island.
The Austrian defender is the fourth foreigner to join the Stripes this month. Goalkeeper Miroslav Kopric joined our Club last Monday while midfielders Edison Bilbao and Mislav Andelkovic joined our Club in the first week of the January Transfer Market.
We would like to welcome Christian while wishing him all the best of luck in his adventure with our Club.
