BOV Premier League - Birkirkara FC 1-2 Sliema Wanderers FC
by Clayton Schembri - 27th October 2020Birkirkara FC failed to keep their momentum as yesterday evening they lost against Sliema Wanderers FC. The Blues, in fact, return to winning ways and move on with 13 points and joined Gzira, Hibernians and Hamrun in top of the BOV Premier League. On the other hand, the Stripes remain joint-fourth from bottom with 4 points.
The First Half
Sliema had more possession and the early crossbar hit by Sylvano Comvalius was a prove of the intent by Sliema Wanderers to search for a lead in this game. However, Sliema were reduced to ten men on the 14th minute, after a tackle by Riki Kakinuma. The stripes also were reduced to ten men on the 36th minute, the Italian defender Francesco Verde received the second yellow card.
Just before the half time, Birkirkara managed to take the lead, after a shot by Federico Falcone was blocked by the goalkeeper Jake Galea with the ball bouncing onto Sliema defender Kurt Shaw and into the net for an own goal.
The Second Half
Sliema managed to make the score level on the 59th minute, Sylvano Comvalius headed the ball into the net after a cross by Dejan Vukovic.
Ten minutes from time, the blues also managed to score their winning goal with another header, this time by Jean Paul Farrugia following a long-distance freekick.
