BOV Premier League - Birkirkara FC vs. Senglea Athletic FC
by Ayrton Galea - 18th January 2020Birkirkara FC will be searching for the third consecutive victory in the BOV Premier League when they take on Senglea Athletic FC this afternoon in a match that will be played at the Centenary Stadium (Kick-Off - 16:15).
The Stripes' task of turning around their fortunes in the second round of the league could not have a better start as they defeated leaders Floriana FC courtesy of a goal by the in-form Federico Falcone.
For the team led by Coach Andre Paus, this was the fifth victory in the last six matches in all competitions as only the defeat against Sliema Wanderers FC, a match that they dominated for long stretches, denies a perfect six-match run.
Their position in the league standings remains far from expected as they lay in the seventh-place but they continued to apply the pressure on sixth-placed Balzan while narrowing the gap with Sirens FC, who are fifth, to six points.
On the other hand, Senglea Athletic FC will be on the lookout for their first victory under the helm of their new coach Roselli Giorgio.
The Italian Coach was just moments away to register the perfect debut against Sirens FC, but the latter made the score level one minute from time as the points were shared following an entertaining 2-2 draw.
Senglea is one of the three teams together with Sliema Wanderers FC and Gudja United FC who are with fourteen points, just three points above Santa Lucia FC and their last victory goes back to three months ago.
In the first-round match, Senglea emerged as winners with a narrow 1-0 score thanks to Wilfried Zambie's strike fifteen minutes from time after the Stripes were forced to play no less than 80 minutes with one player less.
