BOV Premier League - Floriana FC vs. Birkirkara FC
by Ayrton Galea - 12th January 2020Birkirkara FC will start their 2020 commitments with a difficult task as this afternoon, they take on the BOV Premier League leaders and the only unbeaten side, Floriana FC.
The Stripes will be hoping that in this new year, they will turn around their fortunes following a disappointing start of the season that sees them nine points adrift a spot in European competitions next season.
They finished the last year with a fine victory against Sirens FC with a 2-0 score courtesy of a goal each by Federico Falcone and Cain Attard. This was their third victory in their last four matches in the league.
On the other hand, the Greens will start the second round with a six-point advantage on top of the table following an impressive run of thirteen matches without a defeat as they registered nine victories and four draws.
The league leaders are coming from two identical 2-1 victories against Santa Lucia FC and Sliema Wanderers FC as they recovered from a 2-2 draw against Hibernians FC and a goalless draw against Hamrun Spartans FC.
Both teams won't have any new faces for this match. The Stripes released Miguel Alba and Nicholas Vella joined Mosta FC on loan till the end of the season while Edward Herrera of Floriana FC joined Sirens FC on loan till the end of the season.
Coach Andre Paus must do without the services of Maurizio Vella as he must serve a one-match ban after receiving his fourth yellow card in the last match.
In the first-round match, a solitary goal by Kristian Keqi, the Greens' top-scorer, was enough to emerge as winners with a narrow 1-0 score.
The match will be played at the National Stadium and it will kick off at 16:00.
