by Ayrton Galea - 18th December 2019Birkirkara FC finished the year on a high note as yesterday they defeated Kirkop United FC with a comfortable 4-0 score to remain three points clear on top of the BOV Women's League.
The Stripes dominated proceedings for long stretches but squandered several goal-scoring chances in the first half before Loza Abera and Stephania Farrugia netted a brace each in the second half to earn the Stripes another victory.
Abera finishes the year as the league's top scorer with nineteen goals as the Ethiopian forward has produced electrifying performances and showed excellent goal-scoring skills since joining the club.
Birkirkara had to wait ten minutes inside the second half to take the lead. Gabriella Zahra's cross found Loza Abera inside the box and the latter kept her cool to drill a low shot past goalkeeper Sharon Costantino.
The Stripes doubled their lead on the seventy-fourth minute. Veronique Mifsud delivered an inch-perfect corner kick and Stephania Farrugia hit home with a bullet header.
Farrugia, the Birkirkara captain, was on target again with her second personal goal eight minutes later. It was again another in-swinging corner by Mifsud that reached Farrugia and the latter continued the ball into the net from close-range.
Abera added her second personal goal and the fourth one for the Stripes two minutes from time. A shot by a substitute and debutant Izabella Camilleri was blocked from inside the box but Abera fired home from close-range.
