BOV Women's League - Mgarr United FC 0-0 Birkirkara FC

Birkirkara FC Women's Team made a significant step towards their third consecutive title when in the much-awaited top of the table clash, they held strong for a goalless draw against Mgarr United FC to remain six points clear with three matches to go.

The two dominant sides in this year's league campaign went head to head and produced an entertaining match that produced several scoring opportunities, but both sides held strong to a clean-sheet to deservingly share the points.

The Stripes were aware that a point would do in this fixture but they had an edge over their opponents in the first fourty-five minutes where they went close on several occasions to break to deadlock.

On the other hand, Mgarr United tried to push forward in the second half, but the Birkirkara defence was on top form to complete another clean-sheet as the Stripes earned a very precious point.

Coach Melania Bajada made one change from the incredible victory against Hibernians FC as Ylenia Carabott started instead of Veronique Mifsud. Carabott was given the roam behind forward Willis with Giusti and Sultana starting at her either side.

The First Half

Birkirkara's centre-forward and team's top scorer Kailey Willis almost put her side ahead with a magnificent goal when she struck a powerful shot from distance, but goalkeeper Rachelle Borg produced a brilliant save.

The Stripes went close again just a few moments later. An inch-perfect corner kick taken by Tracy Teuma found captain Stephania Farrugia who hit a powerful header that was denied by the upright.

The Second Half

After the break, Mgarr United tried to take the initiative of the match as the Greens sought for the three points from this match. However, they found little space and they rarely test the Birkirkara goalkeeper, Janice Xuereb.

In fact, it was the Stripes who produced the best chances of the second half. A direct free-kick by Ann-Marie Said from an ideal position ended over, while a cross-shot by substitute Veronique Mifsud finished wide.
