Women: Birkirkara FC 3-1 Hibernians FC
by Ayrton Galea - 3rd May 2018Champions Birkirkara FC Women's Team secured their place in the semi-final of the Women's Knock-out and kept their cup defence on course, when they defeated Hibernians FC with a 3-1 score. This was the second victory against Hibernians in the last week.
Fresh from their 4-1 empathic win against the Paolites that secured them their seventh league title, the Stripes produced another brilliant performance to emerge as winners with another comfortable score and book their place in the semi-final.
Following a goal-less first half, the Stripes surged ahead just before the hour-mark. Veronique Mifsud intercepted a clearance to put Tracy Teuma through and the latter kept her cool to drill a low-shot past the Hibernians goalkeeper. This was Teuma's twelfth goal this season.
The Stripes doubled their lead on the sixty-eighth minute. Mifsud was on target again as she ran forward past two defenders to reach a vertical through-ball and the fifteen-year-old hit a low strike past the on-rushing goalkeeper.
Birkirkara made them three and secured the victory twelve minutes from time. Tracy Teuma delivered an accurate corner kick on the second post and substitute Joselene Gafa hit home with a well-placed header. This was the first goal of Gafa since joining our Club in late January.
Just like last week, Dorianne Theuma scored a consolation goal for Hibernians late in the match thanks to a direct free-kick.
