Under-17's Team finish league campaign with a victory
by Ayrton Galea - 23rd April 2017Birkirkara FC Under-17's Team ended their APS Bank Under-17's League commitments on a positive note, when they came from behind to defeat Pieta Hotspurs FC with a 2-1 score. The Stripes placed in the fourth position in this league campaign.
The Stripes started this match on the wrong foot, as they fell behind after two minutes when a long-range shot surprised goalkeeper Miguel Zarb Cousin.
Birkirkara re-grouped after the early goal. They stepped-up their tempo and got a deserved equaliser thanks to Carlo Zammit Lonardelli who connected perfectly from a cross by Ayrton Attard. The first half ended in a 1-1 draw.
In the second half, the Stripes continued where they left in the first half, and they took the lead for the first time in the match with a wonderful direct free-kick by Carlo Zammit Lonardelli, who scored his second personal goal and the second one for the Stripes.
Mid-way through the second half, Pieta ended playing with ten men when Jake Ghio was sent off for a reckless tackle on Briam Mifsud. One goal up and with a numerical advantage on the field, the Stripes controlled the match to finish their league campaign with a deserved victory.
