Stripes take on Hibenians in a difficult match
by Ayrton Galea - 29th January 2017Birkirkara FC will be seeking to return to winning ways in the BOV Premier League in order to keep their hopes alive of securing a top-four position, however their task is anything but easy, as they will take on Hibernians FC who will looking for a sole-leadership spot.
Birkirkara's slim title hopes received a further blow last weekend when a goal mid-way through the first-half enabled Valletta to emerge as winners with a narrow 1-0 victory. On the other hand, for the Stripes this was the second defeat in a row, and all pressure will be on them to bounce back with a victory.
On the other hand, Hibernians continued in their pursuit of being one of their main title contenders for this year's Premier League title as they defeated Gzira United with a 3-0 win. This victory win after a 2-2 draw against ten-men Floriana had punctured their progress.
Ysterday's results could be considered to all be in the Stripes' favour that with a victory will be reviving their hopes of a top-three finish as they will trim the gap with Valletta to just three-points and six points away from second-placed Hibernians. On the other hand, a win for the Paolites will see them leap-frog Balzan and take sole-leadership in the BOV Premier League.
Coach Nikola Jaros will be unable to field his best formation as Gary Muir is suspended while he must wait till last-minute fitness tests for the condition of foreign duo Srdjan Dimitrov and Mislav Andelkovic.
The match will be played at the National Stadium and will kick off at 16:00.
Come on the Stripes!
