Optimistic Stripes on the look out for two wins in a row
by Ayrton Galea - 8th January 2017Birkirkara FC will be seeking to build on their positive week and register their second victory in a row in the BOV Premier League, when tomorrow afternoon they will take on Pembroke Athleta FC.
The Stripes got off the New Year with a winning start, when with a convincing performance and a goal in each half, they defeated Mosta with a 2-0 score. This victory enabled them to narrow the gap with the first four teams while returning to winning ways after back-to-back defeats.
Birkirkara's positive week took another twist to the better yesterday when they concluded the second signing as National Team Henry Bonello signed a three-year contract. Bonello joins the team after Gonzalo Malan who already made his debut and left a very good impression.
With Floriana beating Hamrun Spartans with a comfortable 5-1 score, the Greens regained a five-point lead over the Stripes. However, the Stripes have a game in hand, a game which will be played before the direct clash between Hibernians and Valletta.
On the other hand, Pembroke Athleta, who pulled off a major upset in the first round match by clinching a 2-1 victory, will be all out to collect important points in their challenge against the relegation as they are occupying the bottom place of the table.
Pembroke are coming from two positive results as they held Hibernians in a 1-1 draw while they shared the spoils in a goal-less draw against Gzira United in their last match. The Reds will be boosted by their latest signing Arber Dhrami. Dhrami was playing last for Vittoriosa Stars.
The Stripes have no new injury worries and they are expected to be in full-strength bar Christian Bubalovic who is still nursing a knee injury. On the other hand, Pembroke must do without Ugochukwo Akuta, Asani Djeljilj and Italian defender Andrea Scozzese who are suspended.
The match will be played at the National Stadium and it will kick off at 14:00.
Come on the Stripes!
