'We are capable of achieving our goals' - Cain Attard
by Ayrton Galea - 3rd July 2016Up-and-coming defender Cain Attard had a dream debut in UEFA Competitions with our Club. He scored the all-important goal in the 1-1 draw against NK Siroki Brijeg, in the away match. We interviewed Attard after this match.
Cain started this interview by giving his comments regarding the match, “I think it was a balanced game, where both teams missed good chances and it could have gone either way. “
He added, “The coach prepared us in the right manner, he knew what types of players they had and the style of football they play, and so we tried our best to emulate what he told us on the pitch. It is a positive result getting a draw away from home but it is only the first part and Tuesday's game will be a delicate one.”
Cain joined our Club last summer, and he established himself as one of the most promising defenders. On Thursday, he made another personal achievement in his debut with his first goal in UEFA Competitions. Unsurprisingly, Cain told us that this was a big moment for him as he said, “Obviously, scoring a goal in your European debut is a good feeling, and I will cherish this moment. The team as a whole had a good performance and we will try our best to have an even better one in the game on Tuesday.”
The Stripes will be starting next Tuesday's match in a favourable position, as a goal-less draw would be enough, but Cain kept his feet on the ground as he is expecting another tough game. “The second leg will not be an easy one, and we have to be careful, but also we cannot wait for the opposition and defend throughout the game. We will be well prepared, however we have to try and avoid some silly mistakes, and if we do so, I believe we have a good chance to pass to the next round.”
Cain concluded this interview by encouraging the supporters to come to the stadium and support the team, “I saw some of the videos on social media of the supporters gathered to watch the away fixture at the Clubhouse and at the Infetti Training Centre, and we thank them for that. If they do the same and come to the stadium in numbers, it will give us players more motivation. Together I am sure we are capable of achieving our goals.”
