Girls Under-16's defeat Hibernians
by Ayrton Galea - 3rd April 2016Birkirkara FC Girls Under-16's Team registered a wonderful victory in the Girls Under-16's League when with a goal in each half by Samantha Zarb and Sarah Urpani awarded them a fine 2-0 victory to consolidate their fourth place position.
It was a very satisfactory Sunday morning for Coach Ms. Kelly Agius Pace who saw her team deservingly emerge as winners. This win, arriving back-to-back defeats, ensured that the Stripes will be ending in the fourth place as they now opened an eighth-point gap with Hibernians with just one match to go.
All went according to plan as goalkeeper Anthea Enriquez ensured another clean-sheet while defenders Maria Fenech and Nicole Zammit produced a bold defensive display. Mariah Sciberras produced a very satisfactory in midfield while wingers Samantha Zarb and Sarah Urpani rounded their excellent performance with a goal each. Forward Michela Felice also had a top-form performance as she created countless problems for the Hibernians' rear-guard.
The Stripes dictated matters for long stretches and they could have won it with a bigger score, especially for their aggressive start and the number of scoring chances in the opening fifteen minutes. However, after Samantha Zarb, who enjoyed a wonderful week following also being handed the first starting appearance with the Women's Team, broke the dead-lock with a fierce strike just before half-time, the Stripes didn't look back and maintained the match before Sarah Urpani sealed the issue with a powerful shot three minutes from time.
