Unlucky Girls Under-16's lose to Tarxien
by Ayrton Galea - 17th January 2016Birkirkara FC Girls Under-16's were left with only their luck to blame for not taking any points, when on Sunday morning, they lost to Tarxien Rainbows 1-0, with the Stripes hitting the crossbar twice in the added time of the second half.
In a high-level tempo match, the Stripes finished their first-round commitments with a very unfortunate defeat against the other unbeaten side, Tarxien Rainbows. Both teams had their moments of superiority, but at the end, it was a goal mid-way through the second half of the match that gave the Rainbows the win.
Following a lively first-half, where the Stripes created the better chances, Tarxien surged ahead twelve minutes into the second half with a close-range effort. The Stripes threw everything up-front and in the dying minutes, they should have equalised when Mariah Sciberras had a shot that smashed against the crossbar, and just moments later, the same player hit another wonderful strike that also hit the crossbar.
BIRKIRKARA: Anthea Enriquez, Giulia Micallef (46' Kaycee Micallef), Maria Fenech (40' Nicole Zammit), Mariah Sciberras, Samantha Zarb, Sarah Urpani, Michela Felice.
Scorer: Edera Marmara (Tarxien Rainbows).
