Women's Team to face Mgarr United in a difficult test
by Ayrton Galea - 12th January 2016Birkirkara FC Women's Team will be all-out to stay in the title hunt and return to winning ways in the BOV Women's First Division League but their task is anything than plain-sailing when this evening they face the difficult task in form of Mgarr United FC.
Six points down with two direct clashes to go against Hibernians, the Stripes have no other way than to win all their matches in order to leave their titles hopes alive. The Stripes who were in a depleted went down to Hibernians with a 3-0 score in the last match where they had nobody else than themselves to blame for wasting a big number of open scoring opportunities.
On the other hand, Mgarr United are occupying the third place in the standings and they are seven points under the Stripes but they are comfortably six points over Kirkop United. Mgarr recovered from their 4-2 defeat against Hibernians with a comfortable and dominant victory with a 4-0 score against Raiders.
The first-round match found the Stripes producing their best performance so far when they scored goals in the first half to beat Mgarr United with a 5-1 score and they will be seeking to be at their best in tonight's match in order to keep their title hopes alive.
Coach Mr. Jean Pierre Portanier will be boosted by the return of English duo namely Catherine Campbell and Melissa Stickland. However, Alishia Sultana is unavailable as she is in her last part of recovering while Oriana Bedingfield and Isabelle Mazzitelli are doubtful.
The match will be played at the Centenary Stadium and it is scheduled to kick off at 20:00.
