Melissa Stickland joins Birkirkara FC
by Ayrton Galea - 30th November 2015Birkirkara FC continued to strengthen their Women's Team when just a few moments ago, English striker Melissa Stickland joined our Club.
The Stripes are going through a brilliant phase in the league, as they have taken maximum points from their last four outings, and they will be seeking to increase their strength up-front with the signing of Stickland.
With Danish striker Heidi Kjaer leaving our Club to return to her homeland to continue her studies, the Club was quick to fill the gap with the signing of the English striker. Melissa is a twenty-third year old forward who last played for Mansfield Road and Oxford Brookes University.
The signing of Stickland will mean that she will be joining her former team-mate Catherine Campbell. The foreign duo composed the attacking department at Oxford Brookes, and their brilliant combination led to a number of important goals.
We talked with Melissa moments after signing with our Club and she told us, "I joined the club because I wanted a new challenge and experience of playing football abroad, with such a well respected team, and with the opportunity of playing alongside great players."
Reunited with former team-mate Campbell, a delighted Stickland said, "Finally, I have the opportunity to play alongside Catherine again. She is a great player but also a great friend. Without her this opportunity wouldn't be possible. I feel that being able to play football together again will be a very exciting time. I am looking forward to our adventure in Malta."
She concluded by saying, "My targets here at the club are to be constantly improving as a player and as a person, and to help the team win league."
We would like to welcome Melissa while wishing her all the best of luck in her adventure with our Club.
