Under-17's Team beaten by Hibernians
by Ayrton Galea - 8th November 2015Birkirkara FC Under-17's Team suffered their second defeat in the APS Bank Under-17's League as they were beaten by Hibernians FC thanks to a goal in each half and left the Stripes with nothing to show despite another encouraging performance.
The Stripes had a dominant first half and were very unfortunate to come out trailing. The stripes approached the game well and managed to effectively press high their opponents, which prevented Hibs' from playing. Furthermore, Birkirkara were effective in their build-up and managed to create a good number of goal-scoring opportunities throughout the first half.
The First Half
Birkirkara's first chance saw Isaac Ciranna winning possession in the final third and Gianluca Zammit had his shot well saved by the Hibs goalkeeper. A few minutes later Birkirkara had another chance to take the lead when Ayrton Attard was played through on the left side but his shot was paried once again by the Hibs custodian.
Against the run of play Hibs took the lead. A corner taken directly by Andrei Spiteri was cleared off the goal-line but the assistant referee validated the goal amongst the Birkirkara protests.
Birkirkara kept up the tempo and Jordan Sciberras could have levelled matters when he met excellently a corner taken by Kyle Mifsud but his header was cleared off the goal-line.
The Second Half
The Stripes tried to level matters in the second half but Hibs defended well and limited the goal scoring opportunities for Birkirkara. A shot from Neil Micallef went wide whilst Kyle Mifsud's and Ayrton Attard's conclusions were once again saved by the Hibs custodian.
Ten minutes from time Hibs were awarded a free-kick from the side and Nicholas Fava's delivery ended up in the back of the net to make the score 2-0 in Hibernians favour. The latter managed to control the game in the last 10 minutes and collected three points from this match.
