Depleted Women's Team to take on Raiders
by Ayrton Galea - 27th April 2015A depleted Birkirkara FC Women's Team will be seeking to return to winning ways and therefore ensure that they will finish at the second place of the BOV Women's League this evening but to do so, they have to overcome the difficult challenge of Raiders FC.
Forced to face Mgarr United with a number of injured players, the Stripes fell to a 3-0 defeat which dashed their hopes for the title as Hibernians moved just one point away from clinching the title. Hibernians can be mathematically Champions this evening if they take at least a point against Kirkop United.
The Stripes are currently six points over third-placed sides of Raiders and Mgarr United and therefore they need a point from these two games to ensure that they will end the league campaign in the second place. Before losing to Mgarr, the Stripes registered three wins and a 1-1 draw against Hibernians.
On the other hand, Raiders are seeking to end this league campaign in a respectable third place position. From a relegated team, transformed to an outside league challenger, Raiders won twelve matches, drew once and lost five matches. They won three matches from their last four outings, losing to Hibernians, before winning 20-0 against Kirkop United in their last match.
The Stripes are still unsure about the fitness of Janice Xuereb, Alishia Sultana, Raina Giusti, Tara Attard and Stephania Farrugia. However, on a brighter note, Martina Cilia and Yasmeen Vella should be back for the Stripes. Kim Parnis is recovering from a long-term injury.
The Stripes have so far won both encounters against Raiders in this league campaign. In the first round match, a wonderful late strike by Martina Cilia gave them a 2-1 victory, while in the second round, a goal five minutes from time by Kelly Agius Pace saw Birkirkara emerge as winners with a result of 1-0.
The match will be played at the Luxol Stadium and is scheduled to kick off at 20:00.
Come on the Stripes!
