Stripes to take on Pieta Hotspurs
by Ayrton Galea - 18th March 2015Birkirkara FC will be seeking to consolidate their second place in the BOV Premier League on Thursday afternoon, when they take on Pieta Hotspurs FC in a delicate encounter.
A draw last Sunday against Floriana dashed Birkirkara's hopes of re-opening the title challenge with Hibernians, as the latter have now built a most-comfortable ten-point lead.
Birkirkara have not forgotten the shock 4-3 defeat in the opening match of the second round against the Hotspurs. This was the Stripes' last defeat which goes back to the 22 November of last year.
The defeat at the hands of the Hotspurs seemed to be the wake-up call for the Stripes as they are enjoying a fourteen-match unbeaten run in the Premier League. Before sharing the spoils with Floriana, the Stripes were coming from three straight wins over Naxxar, Mosta and Sliema Wanderers respectively.
On the other hand, Pieta Hotspurs are laying just one point over bottom-placed Tarxien Rainbows and they are one of the third teams with twelve points, along-side with Zebbug Rangers and Qormi. Their last win goes back to two months ago when on the 17 January, they defeated Qormi with a narrow 1-0.
In the first-round, the Stripes won the opening match of the league against Pieta with a 2-1 score. After the defeat in the second round of the league, the Stripes made up for it in the Quarter-Finals of the Malta FA Trophy, by beating Pieta 3-0.
Birkirkara FC will be boosted with the return from suspension of Paul Fenech and Ini Akpan.
The match will be played at the National Stadium and is scheduled to kick off at 14:00.
Come on the Stripes!
