'We'll do our very best to bring cups to Birkirkara' - Chircop
by Ayrton Galea - 3rd February 2015Rebecca Chircop stated that the Women's Team are doing their utmost effort to bring honours to Birkirkara this season. She said this during an interview before the Women's Team faces Mgarr United.
Rebecca has spent seven frustrating months ruled-out injured with a knee injury but following her return, the defender has had bold performances to quickly regain her regular place in the first-eleven selection.
Rebecca opened with, “After seven months out of the field because of the injury I still think that I am not the best I could be. However the toughest part is over, and returning back to training with the girls felt amazing.”
She went on by saying, “I would like to thank Enzo the physical trainer who pushed me to be back in the field and coaches, staff and players for believing in me. I will do my best to pay back all their support during these past months by playing my heart out on the field”
When asked about the last match against Pembroke, she told us, “I think that all of us girls and Coaches wanted this win, after Pembroke won the previous game on the table, we were determined to win every ball and to fight for each other, so to win again against Pembroke on the pitch.”
The Stripes will face Mgarr this evening and we asked Rebecca about the preparations for this match. “Thanks to our coaches, we prepared very well for this game, and now it's just up to us to do the best we can.”
Having won all the matches on the field, the Stripes continued to impress and we have asked Rebecca the key for this success. “I believe that we have a strong squad, more than the technique and skills we have in our team, this year we are one big family and together I believe we can win all games. However we all know how tricky a football game can be, and we don't want to make the same mistake we made last year when we lost to Mgarr.”
With eight matches to go, Birkirkara are one of the two main contenders for the title and we asked Rebecca about the team's targets. “Our target is to win, both the league and the knockout and to participate in the UEFA Women's Champions league. As a team, so far we showed that we are the best team, since we are the only unbeaten team on the field, but we kept our feet on the ground and we'll sure do our very best to bring the cups to Birkirkara.”
Finally, Rebecca concluded this interview with a message for the supporters. “The attendance this year was poor compared to other years. We need all your support and we need you to be the 12th player with us. We have another 8 finals and we would love to play them in front of all of you.”
