Women's Team to face Kirkop United
by Ayrton Galea - 19th January 2015Birkirkara FC Women's Team will be kicking off their Championship Pool commitments in the Women's League when this evening, they will take on Kirkop United FC.
It has been an impressive league campaign for the Stripes so far, who finished their first-round commitments with maximum points. They have overcome all the difficult matches, including those of the other league contenders Hibernians and Raiders. The Stripes currently have the best defence when they conceded just two goals while they are the second best attack with sixty-seven goals.
The Stripes completed their first-round commitments last Tuesday with another victory, when thanks to a brace by Raina Giust, they defeated the resilient Pembroke side with a 2-0 score to make sure of finishing the first round with maximum points.
It is up to the Stripes to maintain their momentum, but their task promises to be anything but plain-sailing, starting from today's clash against Kirkop, which could prove to be tough task. The first-round score of a 5-0 might suggest that the Stripes, had a walk in the park, but it was only a stepped up performance by Birkirkara in the second half that crushed Kirkop on the day.
Kirkop are at the bottom of the Championship Pool, in the sixth place in the league standings. They have won five matches while losing another five. They are coming from three consecutive defeats against Pembroke, Birkirkara and Hibernians, losing 4-0 in their last match.
The Stripes will be without the services of Alishia Sultana, who will be serving the first of her two matches suspension, after being sent off in the last match.
The match will be played at the Zebbug Grounds and is scheduled to kick off at 20:15.
