Girls Under-16's share the spoils with Raiders

Birkirkara Girls Under-16's Team were denied from victory with a last-minute goal as Raiders, made a two-goal comeback, to share the spoils in an entertaining 2-2 draw.

Having collected the first three points against Tarxien Rainbows, the girls gave another satisfactory performance and they opened a two-goal lead, but Raiders made a strong comeback and managed to win a point in the last moments of the match.

The First Half

Birkirkara surged ahead on the fifth minute. Mariah Sciberras had her first effort from a free-kick blocked by the defender and off the rebound she unleashed a powerful strike which was superbly deflected by a back-heel of Michela Felice, to put the Stripes in the lead with a beautiful goal.

Raiders reaction arrived on the twelfth minute when a direct free-kick by Rodianne Zerafa was parried by the Birkirkara goalkeeper. The Stripes replied just a minute later with a shot by Mariah Sciberras, which was turned into a corner kick.

Rodianne Zerafa was in action once again three minutes from half time when she had a shot ending over the bar, as Birkirkara kept strong for their one-goal lead till the end of the first half.

The Second Half

The Stripes made them two just one minutes into the second half. The movement of Michela upset the Raiders defence, when she surged inside the box, and hit a fine strike to hit past the Raiders goalkeeper and scored her second goal of the match.

Raiders were quick to get back in the match when just a minute later they pulled one back with a cross-shot that failed to be cleared by the Birkirkara defence, and surprised the Birkirkara goalkeeper Anthea Enriquez with the ball ending in the net.

Birkirkara were unlucky not to regain a two-goal lead five minutes from time. It was once again Michela Felice in action who hit a powerful strike that smashed against the crossbar, and just a minute later a shot by Mariah Sciberras ended over.

Raiders equalised one minutes from time. In a fast transition after Birkirkara lost possession from a corner kick, the ball fell to Rodianne Zerafa who hit home with a powerful strike, to end the match in a 2-2 draw, with the Stripes winning another point in the Girls Under-16's League.
