Under-16's Girls Team lose opening match
by Ayrton Galea - 6th October 2014Birkirkara FC Girls Under-16's suffered a 3-0 defeat in the opening match of the Under-16's League in a match played on Sunday morning.
In a match characterised by heavy rain in the second half, Birkirkara's determination and fighting spirit was not enough to overcome the determined Hamrun players who scored once in the first half and twice in the second half.
Birkirkara started the match on a good note. On the fifth minute, a shot by Mariah Sciberras was turned into a corner kick by the Hamrun goalkeeper, Lorella Farrugia. However, Hamrun managed to take the lead three minutes later when Louiseanne Borg raced forward and beat goalkeeper Anthea Enriquez with a low shot.
On the sixteenth minute, Mariah Sciberras was in action once again when she had her shot turned into a corner kick by goalkeeper Farrugia. Just moments later, Alexia Galea also had her attempt saved by the Hamrun goalkeeper after she was served by Michela Felice.
Birkirkara were determined to level matters, but it was Hamrun that scored twice in just one minute to seal the issue. On the twenty-eighth minute, Louiseanne Borg scored her second goal of the day with another low shot. Just a minute later, Nikita Agius made them three for Hamrun after making the best out of the situation after goalkeeper Enriquez failed to hold the ball.
