Birkirkara FC in a Press Conference before Saturday's big match
by Ayrton Galea - 24th April 2014Birkirkara FC participated in a press conference this morning held at the Grand Excelsior hotel in Floriana in view of Saturday's showdown against Valletta FC where Head Coach, Mr. Paul Zammit and Club's Captain Gareth Sciberras gave their views before the biggest match of the decade.
Saturday's match will bring the curtains down on the BOV Premier League that saw Birkirkara FC and Valletta FC featuring as main challengers for the league title and the contest is rated by most as the match of the decade.
Mr. Paul Zammit, the defending Champions' Head Coach opened by saying, “Before sharing my views for the match, I would like to thank my players and all the staff that have worked very hard throughout the whole season. Our work rate was a very positive one. As the league developed, it all boils down to the last showdown, which is a fact, but we must see our consistency and the strength that we have shown throughout the league. We can face this match with a strong attitude.”
Club's Captain, Mr. Gareth Sciberras is looking forward to be rewarded for the team's hard work next Saturday. “We have worked hard throughout the whole season and we're eager to make it all count next Saturday. This match will determine the league title and, if our hard work was enough or not. From my personal experience, this group of players is excellent, and we are all geared-up for the last performance of the season.”
The Birkirkara Coach is expected to have all his squad available for this match, but he didn't reveal anything about Saturday's strategy. “I have worked hard with the players throughout the season. We have built a team that is capable of facing every challenge throughout the match. We have a team that can opt for different strategies, depending on the situation of the match.”
Mr. Zammit mentioned all the hard work that enabled Birkirkara to be in the top position. “We have been taking match by match from the first match of the season. I have been saying this throughout the whole season and I will mention it again. There was a learning curve for the group of players. As defending Champions, we were under pressure from Match Day 1 and we are under pressure in the last Match Day. There is nothing different. We will be playing our game, we always went out to win our match and next Saturday's showdown is nothing different.”
The Birkirkara Coach concluded by thanking the Club's supporters. “I would like to mention this because for me and for the team it is very important. Our supporters have been backing us in the last years, but this year, it was something special. This season, they were our twelfth player and I'm sure that next Saturday they will be once again giving us their support, something which is extremely important for us, as their support is our strength.”
