Stripes to face Wanderers in the highly anticipated match
by Ayrton Galea - 11th March 2014Champions Birkirkara FC will be seeking to consolidate their top spot of the BOV Premier League, when this evening they face on-form Sliema Wanderers in the highly anticipated match.
Launching their Championship Pool phase with back-to-back victories saw the Stripes recovering from their shock exit of the U*BET FA Trophy to regain their winning touch. Their first Championship Pool match against Balzan proved to be a harsh task for the leaders, but against Mosta, the Stripes turned on the heat by giving a brilliant performance to outclass the Blues with a 4-0 score.
Tomorrow's match is another acid test for Birkirkara, who are aspiring for back to back title wins for the first time in the Club's history. Sliema Wanderers have reached their peak form in the league's crucial stage, and they are enjoying an unbeaten run of ten matches.
Suffering their last defeat at the hands of Birkirkara, who trashed them with a 3-1 score thanks to a high flying performance, the Wanderers managed to make an emphatic reaction. Not only did they get back in the challenge for a place in the Europa League, but they are also threatening to be title contenders.
The Wanderers, like Birkirkara, started their Championship Pool phase brightly by holding Valletta in a 1-1 draw followed by a five-star performance that demolished Balzan with a 2-0 score.
Birkirkara will once again lack the injured Rowen Muscat, but they welcome back Gareth Sciberras following a one-match ban. On the other hand, Sliema Wanderers will be without the services of Abubaker Bello Osagie.
Following a 1-1 draw in the first round, the Stripes defeated Sliema Wanderers with a 3-1 score, which was the last time that Sliema suffered a defeat in this league campaign.
The match will be played at the National Stadium and is scheduled to kick off at 20:00
Come on the Stripes!
