Women's Team to face Tarxien in Semi Final
by Ayrton Galea - 23rd May 2013Champions Birkirkara and Tarxien Rainbows will be crossing swords in the Women's Knock-Out Semi Final this evening.
The Stripes might be considered as slight favourites for this match as they will face one of the two relegated sides from the top division, that is Tarxien Rainbows. However, in these types of matches no one really begins as favourite as surprises happen on several occasions.
Last Thursday, it was another decisive goal by Isabelle Mazzitelli for the Stripes against Pembroke, as the latter gave a bold defensive display which made it hard for the Birkirkara to penetrate, although one must also mention that the Stripes had several key players missing.
On the other hand, Tarxien Rainbows eliminated Vittoriosa Stars with a trashing 7-1 score in the first round before advancing to the semi final thanks to a walk-over over Santa Venera.
These two sides met twice in the league with both matches being won with a comfortable score by the Stripes. In the first-round match, Birkirkara found no difficulty to outclass the Rainbows with a 7-0 score. However, in the second round, despite the Stripes winning with a comfortable 4-1 score, Tarxien produced an impressive defensive display where they closed all the gaps and frustrated Birkirkara.
Birkirkara will be boosted by the return of two essential players as defender Stephania Farrugia and forward Kelly Agius Pace will be available following a two-match suspension. However, Maryrose Cardona is still suspended.
The match will be played at the Centenary Stadium and is scheduled to kick off at 20:00.
We would like to urge all the Birkirkara supporters to come and support the Women's Team.
Come on the Stripes.
