Stripes all out to move on top

by Ayrton Galea - 12th March 2013

Birkirkara could move alone to the top of the BOV Premier League standings, at least till Hibernians play their match, when they will face Mosta in one of the two matches scheduled for today.

With Valletta twice in the lead against Tarxien Rainbows, probably no one expected an amazing comeback by the Rainbows to turn the match around and with with a 3-2 score. This loss for the Citizens left them just two points ahead of Birkirkara, which puts the Stripes in an ideal position to move to the top of the table.

Following the narrow defeat to Sliema Wanderers in the first match of the Championship Pool phase, the Stripes made a strong comeback by defeating Hibernians to Jean Pierre Mifsud Triganza's strike three minutes before half time to put Birkirkara back in the title run.

On the other hand following the departure of several key players, Mosta seem to have lost their way in the Premier League as they are coming from three consecutive defeats against Rabat, Valletta and Tarxien Rainbows respectively.

While Mosta are still searching for their first win, the match could turn into a complicated one and the Stripes will have to be on their best day in order to defeat the Blues.

Shola Shodiya will be available for selection for Birkirkara after he served his one match suspension. On the other hand, Ferdinando Apap of Mosta is suspended having collected four yellow cards.

Following a 1-0 victory in the first round for the Stripes, in the second round, Birkirkara demolished Mosta with a very comfortable 7-1 score to register their biggest win of the season so far.

The match will be played at the National Stadium and it is scheduled to kick off at 18:00. Transport from Valley Road will leave at 17:30.

Come on the Stripes!
