Birkirkara to face Hamrun in last second round match
by Ayrton Galea - 12th February 2013Birkirkara have the perfect opportunity to begin the second phase just one point behind the league's leaders when on Wednesday evening they will face Hamrun Spartans. The Stripes will be all out for revenge over the Spartans who had shockingly defeated them in the first round.
Following early elimination from the U*BET FA Trophy, just a few days later Birkirkara were held in a goal-less draw against Sliema Wanderers. Pressure began to pile on the Birkirkara clan, but last Saturday the Stripes returned to winning ways as they defeated Qormi with a 2-1 score.
However, tomorrow's clash will definitely not be a ride in the park for the Stripes, despite the fact that the Spartans are in their race to avoid relegation to the First Division.
Having won just one match from their last twelve outings, Hamrun are in a deep crisis as they cannot afford to drop more points in order to maintain their Premier League status. Their last win was on 13 January when they defeated Rabat Ajax with a 3-1 score.
With Tarxien and Hibernians sharing the spoils in a goal-less draw, probably the best result possible for the Stripes, Birkirkara have the perfect opportunity to move ahead of the Rainbows while narrowing the gap with Hibernians.
Paul Fenech and Joseph Zerafa will be suspended for the Stripes having collected their fourth yellow card in the previous encounter.
The match will be played at the National Stadium and it is scheduled to kick off at 18:00.
Come on the Stripes.
