Birkirkara aim to bounce back
by Ayrton Galea - 15th December 2012A tricky test will be waiting for 'The Stripes' this afternoon when they face Floriana in the fifteenth match of the BoV Premier League.
Last week, a goal two minutes from time by Rabat's debutant Jose Louis Armario Negrin denied Birkirkara sole leadership and the three precious points as they were held in a 3-3 draw by Rabat Ajax. This was the second consecutive late equaliser for ‘The Stripes', as this has also happened in their match against Balzan Youths where they were held in a 2-2 draw.
On the other hand, Floriana had a perfect launch of the second round as they made them three from three last week by beating Balzan Youths with 3-1 score thanks to a very satisfactory display. ‘The Greens' who had a very shaky and uncertain beginning defeated Sliema Wanderers and Hamrun Spartans with an identical 2-0 score.
With yesterday's being one of the most comfortable victories for Hibernians as they defeated Rabat Ajax with a trashing 6-0 score, they moved temporarily as sole leaders with 31 points, followed by Valletta with 29 and Birkirkara with 28. On the other hand, ‘The Greens' are in the 7th place with 19 points.
A win for Birkirkara would put ‘The Stripes' temporarily joint-leaders with Hibernians while a win for Floriana will make their Championship Pool aim more realistic.
Birkirkara and Floriana already met twice this season, once in the Euro Cup and then in the first round of the Premier League. ‘The Stripes' won on both occasions with a 3-0 score.
The match will be played at the National Stadium and it is scheduled to kick off at 16:00.
Come on the Stripes!
