Under 15's beaten by Qormi
by Jonathan Spiteri - 26th November 2012In a direct clash between two teams sharing second spot in the Under 15s Section B table, Qormi managed to beat our boys 2-0 at the Melita Grounds. This was the second defeat of the campaign, with an identical score as the one with San Gwann.
The Stripes were clearly the better team during the first half, where they forced a number of corners which were dealt with by the Qormi rearguard. Birkirkara kept on piling the pressure and went close through a header by Max Borg Bartolo and a freekick by Kieran Xuereb, but the opponents held on well to see the first half through without conceding a goal. Unfortunately the second half was a different story as in its early minutes, Qormi broke the deadlock from a corner kick which, due to some hesitant defending, ended up in the back of our net. This goal knocked Birkirkara off their stride and Qormi from their part grew in confidence. The game was practically sealed when the Yellow-Blacks doubled their lead from a direct freekick. Our boys tried to stage a reaction, but their final touches left much to be desired and Qormi were able to keep hold to their two-goal lead until the end.
Coach Mr Micallef was disappointed that the team did not build up on its good first half performance. “Although this was a direct clash the boys showed character until we went out for the second half were we lost some of our concentration especially in the final touches. I am sure that we all do our analysis and start working for our next league game. Most important is to work hard as a team and gain back our momentum.”
The Under 15s will play Zebbug Rangers on Saturday 8th December (public holiday) at 10:45. This match will be played at the Sirens Stadium in Qawra.
