Birkirkara to face Qormi in AME Cup
by Ayrton Galea - 26th July 2012Birkirkara can be the first team to qualify for the semi-finals of the AME Cup when this evening they face Qormi in their second match of the competition.
Last Sunday, Birkirkara kicked off the AME Cup in style when in a match against Sliema they recovered a two goal disadvantage to win the match with a 4-2 score. Former Valletta's Brazilian duo Jusselio Da Silva and Jhonnattann Benites Da Conceicao who are on trial with our Club made their first appearance which was a very good one especially for Jhonnattann who scored a brace.
Today's opponents, Qormi, also started their involvements in the AME Cup last Sunday, against newly promoted Rabat Ajax, and they were defeated with a 2-0 score.
In the last Premier League, Qormi were playing in the Relegation Pool, so Birkirkara only met them twice, with one victory going to each side. In the first round a goal by Spanish striker Moises Avila Perez and a penalty converted by Trevor Cilia saw ‘The Stripes' opening their Premier League campaign with a 2-0 win. On the other hand, in the second round it was Qormi who managed to beat Birkirkara with a 2-0 win thanks to goals by Abubaker Bello Osagie and Jorge Pereira Da Silva.
This match will be another opportunity for both coach to experiment with their squad while for Birkirkara, they will focus more on their foreign players who are currently on trial with our Club.
The match will be played at the Luxol Stadium and it will kick off at 18:30. Adult tickets costs €4 while for children under 12 years of age they are selling for €2.
Come on the Stripes!
