Under 19's Season 2011-2012 Roundup

by Ayrton Galea - 21st May 2012

With last week's defeat in the knock out, the Birkirkara's Under 19 Team ended their season's commitments. In this roundup we are going through the highlights of this season which had several ups and downs.

Comparing the final league standings to the previous season, when Birkirkara ended in the fifth place just three points ahead of relegated Mosta, it was definitely a positive one. On the other hand, this season, Birkirkara were being considered as title challengers alongside Pieta, however, these hopes soon faded away following a negative patch.

Probably the most positive aspect this season was the large number of players forming part from the Under 19 squad which found space with the First Team. Without any doubt, the future of these players seems bright.

Youths' League Section A

In what could be considered as a roller-coaster ride, Birkirkara had several ups and downs. In the most important and decisive phase, the performances were not the best. However, having said all this, there still was a huge improvement from the previous season where Birkirkara only avoided relegation in the very last few matches.

Matches

Birkirkara commenced their league commitments on the 14 September with a 3-1 loss against St. Andrews while ending the first round with a 2-1 defeat against Hibernians on the 4 January.

The second round kicked-off with another loss against St. Andrews on the 19 January when Birkirkara lost with a 5-2 score. The league commitments came to an end with a 2-1 defeat against Hibernians on the 26 April.

After playing eighteen matches, Birkirkara ended in the third place with 27 points. They registered nine wins and two draws while they were beaten seven times. They scored 37 goals and they conceded 32.

On the other hand, the biggest defeat was conceded against rivals Valletta on the 23 February with a 4-0 result.

The best run was registered between the 22 September and the 23 November when they registered five straight wins, scoring no less than fourteen goals and conceding just two. Ironically, the worst patch were registered in the next five matches when they picked up only four points from a possible fifteen, scoring eight goals and conceding twelve.
