Birkirkara aiming to move back third
by Ayrton Galea - 8th April 2012Birkirkara will start as favourites, and are expected to extend their unbeaten run and move back to third place, when they face Balzan Youths.
In their last outing, despite not giving the best of performances, ‘The Stripes' extended their unbeaten run to six matches and kept a six point advantage over Sliema when they shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw.
Before this match, 'The Stripes' defeated Tarxien, Hamrun and Floriana with a 3-1 score respectively, drew in a 1-1 draw against Valletta and gave the second loss of the season to Hibernians with a 1-0 score.
On the other hand, Balzan Youths are still in search of their first victory in the Championship Pool phase. In the last match, they conceded a 4-1 defeat against Hibernians after they had a player sent off early in the second half.
So far, in the Championship Pool, Balzan were humiliated with a 7-2 score against Valletta, drew with nine men Sliema in an entertaining 3-3 draw, defeated by Floriana with a 3-1 score and as said earlier defeated by Hibernians with a 4-1 score in their last match.
A win for Birkirkara will see them completing the third round unbeaten and moving back third. A win for Balzan will see them moving to the 5th place and registering the first win in this phase.
With six matches to go, Birkirkara are fourth with 26 points one behind Floriana but with a game in hand. On the other hand, Balzan are sixth with 17 points three behind Sliema Wanderers.
Shola Shodiya and Moises Avila Perez will be back for ‘The Stripes' after they were both missing in the last match. Balzan will be without the services of Jonathan Francica and Roderick Farrugia, who are both suspended.
The match will be played at Victor Tedesco Stadium and it is scheduled to kick off at 20:15. Transport from Valley Road will leave at 19:15.
