Birkirkara in a delicate match against Hibernians
by Ayrton Galea - 23rd March 2012Birkirkara will be facing a difficult test in the form of current league leaders Hibernians, when these two teams cross swords this Saturday afternoon.
Birkirkara's positive run was extended last Saturday with a late equaliser six minutes from time, thanks to a penalty scored by Moises Avila Perez which enabled ‘The Stripes' to hold Valletta in a 1-1 draw. This was the fourth consecutive unbeaten match for Birkirkara after registering three wins in a row against Tarxien, Hamrun and Floriana respectively all with a 3-1 score.
Hibernians' morale is sky-high after they climbed to the first place thanks to Valletta dropping points in their last match. In the last outing they registered a 2-0 win over Floriana to extend their winning streak to three matches and their unbeaten run to nine. Their first and only defeat was suffered on the 9 December 2011, against Balzan with the latter notching the winning goal in the last minutes.
Without any doubt, it should be an entertaining match as both sides are currently in form. While Birkirkara will be hoping to extend their positive run and continue on the right track for the third place, Hibernians cannot afford any slip ups which can cost them the leading position.
Birkirkara and Hibernians met twice in the Premier League and in both matches, Hibernians found no difficulty to beat Birkirkara with a 3-0 and 5-0 score respectively.
Birkirkara will be without the services of Moises Avila Perez, who was suspended for two matches. On a more positive note, Jean Pierre Mifsud Triganza will be back following a slight ankle injury.
The match will be played at the National Stadium and it is scheduled to kick off at 14:00. Transport from Valley Road will leave at 13:00.
Come on the Stripes!
