Birkirkara, Balzan in direct clash for fourth place

by Ayrton Galea - 4th February 2012

Birkirkara could leap to the fourth position and one step closer to the Championship Pool when in Sunday's direct clash, they face Balzan Youths.

Birkirkara are going through a very disappointing run as they only one match from their last four outings, conceding defeats to Sliema, the elimination from the FA Trophy against Hamrun and the 1-0 defeat against Floriana last Saturday. The only win was a narrow 1-0 win against Marsaxlokk.

On the other hand Balzan Youths are going through a positive patch as they were undefeated in their last four matches. After surprisingly beating Hibernians with a 3-2 score to end their unbeaten streak, they drew 2-2 with Mqabba and defeated Sliema Wanderers and Marsaxlokk with 2-1 and 1-0 scores respectively.

After Sliema were held in a 1-1 draw by Tarxien Rainbows and Qormi were defeated with a 2-0 score by Hibernians, Birkirkara can move in the fourth place, six points on Qormi who are currently in the 7th position.

Ryan Scicluna will be suspended for Birkirkara but Joseph Zerafa will be back from suspension. The latest acquisition Jean Pierre Mifsud Triganza could make his debut as he is available for selection.

In the first round, a wonderful over head kick by Moises Avila Perez was enough for Birkirkara to seal a 2-1 win after they had suffered an early goal.

The match will be played at the Hibernians Stadium and it is scheduled to kick off at 16:00. Transport from Valley Road will leave at 15:00.

Come on the Stripes!
