Birkirkara to face in form Floriana
by Ayrton Galea - 27th January 2012Birkirkara this afternoon will face Floriana, the team that is probably in the best form at the moment.
Birkirkara's hopes that this year they could win any silverware were dashed last Sunday when they were eliminated from the FA Trophy by Hamrun Spartans with a 3-2 score. In the last Premier League match, Birkirkara disappointed with the way they squandered many open goal chances although they still managed to beat Marsaxlokk with a narrow 1-0 lead.
On the other hand, Floriana are going through a very fine moment and in fact they are unbeaten in their last eight league matches. Interestingly enough, their last defeat was against Birkirkara. In the U*BET FA Trophy, Floriana advanced to the Quarter Finals by eliminating Balzan Youths with a narrow 1-0 win.
Mr. Paul Zammit will not have a whole selection available as Joseph Zerafa is ruled out suspended, Shola Shodiya is still not fully recovered from a hamstring injury. Alan Tabone suffered an injury during Thursday's training session and is also not available for the match. After missing the match against Hamrun, the latest Birkirkara signing, Regillio Nooitmeer is available for selection.
This season these two teams met twice. First in the Euro Cup, when Birkirkara and Floriana shared the spoils in a goal-less draw and then in the Premier League, when Birkirkara won the game with a comfortable 3-0 score.
The MFA announced that the Birkirkara supporters will be located at the Millennium Stand and not in the Enclosure side as usual.
After more than three months, Birkirkara will be playing at the National Stadium. The match is scheduled to kick off at 14:00. Transport is available and it will leave at 13:00.
Can 'The Stripes' overcome the odds and register a double over Floriana, or will t be 'The Greens' who will be extending their unbeaten run and deepen Birkirkara's crisis?
