Stripes, Spartans in a clash for precious points
by Ayrton Galea - 22nd October 2011Birkirkara will be aiming to continue building on last match's performance and return to winning ways when in the second match of today's program, 'The Stripes' will face Hamrun Spartans.
Birkirkara performed a satisfactory performance in the last match against Valletta but still ended in a 2-1 defeat and therefore this means that Birkirkara are still chasing their first win under the new guidance of Mr. Paul Zammit.
On the other hand, Hamrun are coming from two wins. First they beat Mosta with a solitary goal and then in the last they managed to come back from behind and beat Sliema with a 4-2 score.
Birkirkara met Hamrun four times last season in the Premier League and they managed to win only one. After sharing the spoils in a 1-1 draw in the first round, Birkirkara beat Hamrun with a 2-0 score in the second round. In the Championship Pool a 1-1 and 2-2 results were the scores between these two teams.
Angus Buhagiar will be back after missing last match due to an injury. The only player missing for Birkirkara is Shaun Bajada. Mr. Zammit in an interview published on this website, said that Shaun is expected to be available in the 2nd week of November.
After Hibernians continued on their great run by beating Mqabba with a 4-1 win, and Mosta surprisingly beat Sliema Wanderers with a 3-2 win, Birkirkara have a chance to advance in the fourth place and go one point ahead of Sliema Wanderers and three ahead of Mqabba.
The match will be played at the National Stadium and it is scheduled to kick off at 17:00. Transport from Valley Road is available and it will leave at 16:00.
Come on the Stripes!
