Moises Avila Perez Interviewed
by Ayrton Galea - 8th October 2011Last Friday Birkirkara bounced back with a 2-1 win. Moises Avila Perez scored the second goal with a spectacular over-head kick, so this week we could not resist interviewing the Spanish striker.
Tell us something about yourself.
I'm Moises Avila Perez, 23 from Tenerife, Spain.
Tell us about your typical day.
On match days I get out of the bed and think, 'Today must be a great day'.
What are your hobbies besides football?
The beach, watching movies, listening to music, etc.
What is your impression of Malta? Had you ever been here before? Did you ever imagine you would be playing here?
Malta is somewhat different, when you come here you feel a little weird because of the language and other things but you adapt quickly, people are very friendly and I never really imagined that I would play here, but hey, it's my present opportunity and I have no regrets.
Why did you decide to join Birkirkara F.C.
My agent told me that they are looking for a player in the attack and that I have the right characteristics to fill this position. I wanted to try something new and I know that this is one of the most important and competitive clubs in Malta.
Can you tell us something about your previous experiences?
I always played in Tenerife where I began with a humble club in the north of the island called CD Sauza, which then became part of the chain of subsidiaries of CD Tenerife. There I stayed for six years and finally moved to AT Victoria, where we won the league championship and I was the top scorer in the category, I think till now that has been my best year as a footballer.
Who were your football heroes when you were growing up? And who are your football heroes now?
As a kid I liked a lot of players, but if I had to choose one I'd choose Diego Maradona. Nowadays, undoubtedly it is Lionel Messi.
Who is your favourite striker in the world?
I feel that my position and game is similar to the game of Ibrahimovic, Torres, Drogba, etc but I still think that Lionel Messi is the best.
How important is the role of a striker in your opinion?
I think it's very important. He has to be in the right place to finalise the attack and try to score.
What makes you a good striker?
To be a hard worker in front one must try to give 100% every game, I think at my position, I can compensate for the team and other colleagues can be more successful.
Several players have rituals or habits before matches. Do you have any? If yes, which are they?
It's true. I usually pray before the beginning and the end of the game.
Who is your best team mate?
If I name one I lie. I feel very much at ease with all of them. They all have been very welcoming. We are a great group and I think that is important to achieve something.
What are your comments about our last match against Marsaxlokk?
We had a great game. We were coming from a bad patch and we needed those three points. We showed from the beginning that we were all out for a win.
How do you describe your performances so far? Do you think that you have settled down with our squad or do you still feel the need for improvement when it comes to communication and performances?
I believe that my performances have been fine, and I have been trying to do my best for the team but this is football and there are times that things do not go the way one wishes. There is always room for improvement. You learn something new every day.
What are your comments about the spectacular goal you scored?
A great goal. I was striving to give a good match and that was the prize.
Why did you decide to try the over-head kick? Did you really believe that you could score?
At that time I was not thinking, just acting, I just wanted to score. I think it is not a matter of training but instinct
Without any doubt, Valletta are one of the main challengers for the title, what are your comments for this match?
Yes, Valletta is a big team. I have seen them play but they are not superior to us. If we play well we can win. It's going to be a good game. I think what we need is just one more player to be a complete squad.
What are your targets with our Club, and what are your future plans?
My goal is to try and win titles with Birkirkara and play in the UEFA matches next year. I think the future is not written. We'll take it as it comes. I am very happy here, people treat me well and it is a great club I would not mind staying here for several seasons.
What are the most important things in your life?
My family and my girlfriend who have helped and supported me throughout.
How important are the supporters for you and do you have a message for them?
Very important. It's very nice and motivating to go on the pitch and see your supporters cheering non stop. The truth is, and I believe that our fans see this, as more than a hobby so I would like to ask our supporters to be patient if we have a bad game and not give up on us. In the end we will all have our reward, even them.
