Birkirkara lose to St. Patricks in friendly match
by Ayrton Galea - 5th August 2011In a friendly match played tonight, Birkirkara gave up a three goal advantage to lose against St. Patricks with a score of 4-3.
One should say that Birkirkara were far off from having a full selection as Joseph Zerafa, Gareth Sciberras, Paul Fenech and Trevor Cilia were not available due to the National First Team commitments while Rowen Muscat, Leighton Grech and Terence Vella were unavailable due to the National Under 21 Team commitments. Alan Tabone and Shaun Bajada were ruled out injured.
A Serbian striker was making his first appearance as a trialist for Birkirkara and he left a good impression and managed to score twice.
The First Half
The first half was quite one sided as it saw Birkirkara opening a three goal advantage. However St. Patricks narrowed the gap and the first half ended with a score of 3-1.
5' The Serbian striker had a powerful shot ending wide after he was served on the right.
12' Birkirkara took the lead when it was the Serbian striker in action when he tried his luck with a powerful shot which was temporarily saved by the goalkeeper. From the rebound Moises Avila Perez made no mistake.
15' Birkirkara doubled their lead when the Serbian striker scored an excellent goal. He was well served on the right, rounded no less than three players in the box and with a powerful shot made the score 2-0.
20' Mora's perfect drop kick found Ryan Scicluna, who tried to serve the Serbian striker but the pass was anticipated and saved by the goalkeeper.
21' The Serbian striker served Jacopo Camilli who tried his luck with a powerful shot which ended wide.
22' Birkirkara increased their advantage to three goals when the Serbian striker served Jacopo Camilli who tried his long distance shot. The shot seemed to be erroneous and looked like it would be easy for the goalkeeper but the Serbian striker anticipated the goalkeeper, headed over the goalkeeper and put the ball into an empty net.
25' St. Patricks pulled one back when from a good action on the left the ball was turned into a corner kick. From the corner kick, the corner was met well and gave no chance to Mora.
27' The Serbian striker served Jacopo Camilli who had his shot ending wide.
33' Moises rounded a player and tried a cross which was turned into a corner kick.
34' Peter Pullicino served Camilli, the latter passed to Ryan Scicluna who had his cross ending wide.
36' St. Patricks had an effort on goal ending wide.
39' The Serbian striker performed a good solo run and concluded with a powerful shot which ended wide.
42' A good cross from the left was turned into a corner kick. From the same corner St. Patrick's temporarily cleared and Ryan Scicluna tried his luck with a powerful shot which ended wide.

The Second Half
In the second half St. Patricks make a great comeback to turn the result in their favour in the final few minutes. Mr. Patrick Curmi continued to include more youngsters as Karl Magri and Wayne Chetcuti replaced Jorge Mora and Angus Buhagiar.
4' Wayne Chetcuti crossed into the box but the goalkeeper saved with no difficulty.
6' St. Patricks make them 3-2 after a series of good short passes and the action ended with a powerful shot which beat Karl Magri.
13' Moises' low cross found Camilli whose shot ended wide.
17' St. Patricks equalised with a superb goal when a cross from the back found a player who fired a long diagonal distance shot which ended in the net with Karl Magri having no chance to neutralises it.
19' Camilli almost put Birkirkara ahead when from a good cross by Moises Avila Perez, he tried his first timer but it was saved in style by the goalkeeper and turned into a corner kick.
27' The Serbian striker had a good opportunity to put Birkirkara ahead when Michael Camilleri's cross found the Serbian striker and from an angle, his low shot ended wide.
28' St. Patricks tried their luck with a shot which ended wide.
31' The Serbian striker served Moises, the latter served Camilli with his final shot ending wide.
33' St. Patricks had a good opportunity to take the lead but they were denied thanks to a save by Karl Magir.
36' St. Patricks took the lead and Birkirkara were left with 10 players when Andrew Decesare handed the ball and the referee ordered the penalty and surprisingly sent off the Birkirkara player. From the eleven meters, St. Patricks did not fail to convert the penalty kick to a goal.
38' Birkirkara ended playing with nine players as Ryan Camenzuli had to leave the pitch following a harsh tackle which the referee incredibly waved play on.
40' St. Patricks almost scored their 5th goal but Karl Magri made another fine save.
41' On the other side of the pitch, Birkirkara almost grabbed the equalising goal when in a solo action, Moises Avila Perez had his shot saved by the goalkeeper.
The referee blew the full time whistle.
