MFA announces fixtures for Season 2010-2011
by Ayrton Galea - 24th August 2010The Malta Football Association has announced the 2010-2011 season fixtures for the first two rounds. The first game of the season will be on Saturday, 11th September when Hamrun Spartans will face their first opponent Qormi which will be played in the National Stadium and will kick off at 16:00.
Champions Birkirkara will be involved in this Premier League for the first time on Monday 13th September when they will face their first opponents, Sliema Wanderers.
Birkirkara will face the opponents for this season in following sequence. In the first match the 'Stripes' will face the Wanderers, Birkirkara will meet Floriana in the second game. In the 3rd game, they will face Hibernians while they will face arch rivals Valletta in the 4th match. The 1st division champions will be the opponents of 'The Stripes' in the 5th game. In the 6th, Birkirkara will face Hamrun Spartans and in the 7th game, the yellow and reds will face the newly promoted, Vittoriosa Stars. The last opponents for Birkirkara will be Qormi and Tarxien respetively, with the latter match against the 'Rainbows' being the last match of the round for the Champions.
The first round will start on Saturday, 11th September and should end on Friday 3rd December. The 2nd round will start on Saturday 4th December and will come to an end on Sunday 13th February.
The Championship and Relegation Pool phase should start on Friday 18th February. The 2010-2011 season will come to an end on Sunday 8th May.
