Birkirkara FC Annual General Meeting 2009-2010
by Ivan Mizzi - 11th June 2010Birkirkara FC yesterday held its Annual General Meeting for the year 2009-2010. This was attended by a good number of the Club's members. The Club's Secretary, Mr Gilbert Agius presented last year's AGM minutes, and then he presented the Administrative Report, both of which were approved. This was then followed by a presentation of the Financial Report, presented by Assistant Treasurer Josie Licari. This report showed a surplus of income for the season that has just ended. This was received by an applause by all those present. The various section of the Club then presented their reports, all of which were approved.
Several amendments to the Club's statute followed, and these were all approved. Most of these amendments were done to reflect today's reality, by adjusting membership fees, and offering more flexibility in the administration. A notable amendment was for the Club to start making use of the logo as put down in the statute - with red/yellows stripes on the right, and the coat of arms of the town of Birkirkara on the left, and crowned by a football. This was welcomed by the majority of those present with a resounding applause.
Another amendment sees the opening up of membership for those under 18 years of age. However, these junior members will not have the right to vote. Membership fees will from now on be established by the committee, instead of being established in the Statute. This will provide flexibility in adjusting rates according to the times of the day, and opens up opportunities for different membership schemes.
Mr Karm Galea, Club President then addressed all those present, and explained that the Club intends to strengthen the team further. He pointed out that it was not by chance that the team won the league, but it was due to a lot of hard work by all involved. He mentioned the healthy mix there was in the committee, made up of young professionals, and experienced veterans, such as Vice President Mr Joe Gauci, who has served in the committee for 25 years. At this point he was interrupted by a standing ovation in appreciation of Mr Gauci's work. Mr Gauci was given the opportunity to address those present, and he thanked everybody for their support.
The meeting was brought to an end by the presentation of the 15 candidates for the same number of positions for next Season's committee. This meant that was no need for an election. The members were asked if they had any objections to any of the candidates being elected to the committee. There were no objections, and the members decided to elect all 15 candidates presented, and they showed their approval by yet another applause.
