Comfortable victory over the 'Spartans'
by Matthaeus Grasso - 12th October 2009On Saturday, Birkirkara have managed to put five goals past a weak Hamrun Spartans defence in a friendly match organized due to the temporary halt of the BOV Premier League due to the National Squad's commitments in Portugal.
Sylvano Comvalius opened the scoring after thirty-three minutes, when after a fine shot by Trevor Cilia, the gigantic attacker was on hand to smash the ball in.
Five minutes later, scorer turned provider as Comvalius found Cilia who from outside the box, blasted the ball against the crossbar, with the ball bouncing beyond the goal line to make it 2-0.
Just a few second after the restart, Trevor Cilia was the man of the moment yet again, as he ran with the ball before unleashing a fine chip over the Hamrun goalie.
Ten minutes later, Cilia was involved yet again, as he crossed the ball towards the second post where he found Birkirkara's top scorer of all time, Michael Galea who slotted the ball in to make it 4-0.
Four became five, when a Comvalius freekick was partially parried by the Spartans goalkeeper, only for the ball to reach....guess who? Trevor Cilia, who completed his hattrick and make the final score 5-0.
