Birkirkara beaten by Marsaxlokk
by Matthaeus Grasso - 23rd February 2009In a surprising result, Birkirkara were beaten 3-2 by Marsaxlokk, a team threatened with a place in the relegation zone.
After just twelve minutes, it was Kikki Mikhaylov who sparked the Birkirkara side alive when he put the ball past the Marsaxlokk goalie. This was also the first goal for the Bulgarian in the beloved red and yellow shirt.
Just nine minutes after Kikki's thundering shot, Marcelo Perreira headed-in a cross by Carlo Mamo to make the scores even.
The half-time score read 1-1
Marsaxlokk came out for the second half with the sole purpose of grabbing the three points, on the other hand, some of the Birkirkara FC players lacked this sort of motivation, which proved to be fatal come the final whistle.
On fifty-six minutes, trouble struck again, as the same Perreira deflected a direct free-kick by Chris Cassar and into the net.
Ivailo Sokolov made the results even yet again when he managed to rise above all the other players after seventy-three minutes.
As soon as Birkirkara started to press for the winning goal, Alcorse found himself alone in front of Omar Borg, and the Argentine had no problem to see the Birkirkara goalkeeper beaten for the third time in eighty-six minutes, surely not a happy return for Borg.
The full-time whistle found Birkirkara being beaten by a much weaker Marsaxlokk side. A team which however proved to have enough mental strength to beat a stronger team such as ours.
